2010 family vacation to the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
Our Family
Allow me to introduce my family. We are the Trimbles, a multi-cultural family. Trimble is a very common name and it would take quite a bit of work to figure out if all of us in the United States are related, but more on that in my genealogy section. But a bit of explanation on what makes us multi-cultural. I was born in California, while my wife was born in the Philippines. Both of our kids were definitely conceived in the Philippines, but born at the U.S. Naval Hospital on Okinawa, Japan. So technically the kids were born in Japan, but registered as U.S. citizens upon birth through the U.S. Consulate. Our home only embraces American and Filipino cultures, although we all love Japanese food and enjoyed our time in Japan.
Gary and Edna
Edna and I met in Okinawa, Japan during my second tour in the early 1990s. We dated for about 8 months before finally tying the knot during my twelth year of military service. As of 2010 we have been married 17 years, which we attribute to making God the center of our family.
Gary
As I mentioned, I am a native Californian. I lived in five different cities between San Francisco and San Diego while growing up. I finished my last five years of junior high school and high school in San Diego, where I also attended Marine Corps bootcamp. I served 22 years on active duty as an electronics technician, shop maintenance chief, and electronics instructor. I served on both coasts of the United States and Okinawa, Japan. While stationed three times on Okinawa, I had the opportunity to visit the Philippines numerous times, main land Japan three times, South Korea twice, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Iwo Jima. While in main land Japan, I climbed Mount Fuji and visited Hiroshima's Peace Park.
Since retirement I have worked as a classroom trainer, instructional systems designer, and now manage a training department of nine training analysts and instructional systems designers, all for the same company. I hold a Bachelors degree in Computer Information Science and a Masters in Distance Education. I am now ready to make the move back to computers, primarily web design, and am contemplating whether or not to return to school for some additonal training and education to get caught up in the latest technologies. In the mean time, I provide information technology services and web design for our church.
My hobbies include web design, movies, reading and books. I don't have a single favorite movie, but enjoy comedies, westerns, science fiction, fantasy, classic war, and action movies. My favorite books are the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and Silmarillion. My favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and God. My favorite music is smooth jazz, classical, and contemporary Christian.
Edna
Edna is a native of the Philippines, born in raised in the capital city, Manila. She spent several months working on Okinawa in the early 1990s, which is where and when we met. Edna is a wonderful mother to our kids and a pure joy to be around. She is quick to laughter and seems to make friends very easy. Edna has run a home daycare center and worked in food services and as a retail sales associate.
Our Faith
Each member of our family is a born again Christian. Edna and I committed our lives to Christ in January 1994 at a mission church on Okinawa. Our lives far from perfect, we rest in the fact that we are saved by grace and forgiven by a God who loves us dearly. Our kids gave their hearts to Jesus at an early age, during our second tour to Okinawa as a family. We currently attend a Southern Baptist church in Southern California.
Sheila
Sheila Grace is our oldest child, a very excited, high school senior. She is a top notch student and has a wonderful voice. She has over four years choir experience and has been accepted into the Chamber Choir at her high school for the 2010/2011 season.
William
William is our youngest, but not the smallest. At age 15, he has passed me up in height and will probably hit at least 5' 10" if not six feet. A good student, he is a very gifted athlete. He has played football since age 9 and excelled at several positions on offense and defense.
Pets
We have two dogs. Aragorn is the oldest and largest. He is a Shepherd/Rottweiler mix, a ton of fun, and loves people and other animals. Sadie is our youngest and seems to be a Jack Russell/Spaniel.
